The beloved sitcom Malcolm in the Middle is set for a revival, starting filming soon in Vancouver. This reboot is stirring excitement among fans, with some familiar faces returning to their iconic roles.
Frankie Muniz will once again take on the role of Malcolm, while Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek will reprise their roles as his parents. However, not all original cast members will return, as Erik Per Sullivan, who played the youngest brother Dewey, has chosen not to participate in the project. His character will instead be portrayed by Caleb Ellsworth-Clark, an actor known for his role in Fargo.
Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield, who portrayed the oldest brother Francis and Reese, respectively, will be back as well, much to the delight of long-time fans.
Sullivan’s choice to step away from the acting scene stems from his shift in career aspirations. Jane Kaczmarek recently shared her thoughts on Sullivan’s new path, saying, ‘He’s well, he’s very, very well… He did Malcolm for seven years, he started at seven, he ended at 14. He wasn’t interested in acting, at all.’ She noted that he is now pursuing studies at a prestigious university, focusing on Victorian literature.
The Malcolm in the Middle reboot is anticipated to run for four episodes and will be available for streaming on Disney+. Although a release date has not been confirmed, the show creators aim to recapture the humor and heart that made the original series a landmark in television comedy.
The official synopsis reveals that ‘Malcolm and his daughter are drawn into the family’s chaos when Hal and Lois demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party.’ Keeley Karsten has been cast as Malcolm’s daughter, Leah.
When announcing the reboot, Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, remarked, ‘Malcolm in the Middle is a landmark sitcom that captured the essence of family life with humor, heart, and relatability. Its hilarious and heartfelt portrayal of a lovably chaotic family resonated with audiences of all ages, and we’re so excited to welcome the original cast back to bring that magic to life again.’
The original Malcolm in the Middle aired on Fox from 2000 to 2006, spanning seven seasons and earning seven Emmy Awards out of its 33 nominations. This new chapter promises to bring back the chaos, laughter, and maybe a few surprises for both new viewers and dedicated fans.
