Beed, Maharashtra: In a tragic turn of events, a farmer from Wangi village, Gokuldas Kotule, embarked on a simple trip to buy a bicycle for his son, a journey that would lead to an unforeseen and devastating accident. Just four kilometers from his home, he was involved in a serious accident that left him critically injured.
After being rushed to a private hospital in Sambhajinagar, doctors sadly declared Gokuldas brain dead. Faced with the immense grief of losing a beloved family member, his family was approached regarding the possibility of organ donation. After a thorough explanation of the organ donation process in such situations, they made a profoundly selfless decision.
On the night following the declaration of brain death, the family chose to donate Gokuldas’ organs in hopes of helping others. Their courageous decision led to the successful transportation of his heart to Reliance Hospital in Mumbai, his liver to Gleneagles Hospital, and his lungs to Kedia Hospital in Ahmedabad. Additionally, his kidneys and eyes were donated to local healthcare facilities such as MGM and Galaxy.
The urgency of the situation prompted local police officials to establish a green corridor to ensure timely delivery of the organs to their respective destinations. More than 120 police personnel were mobilized, including a Deputy Commissioner of Police, Assistant Commissioner of Police, and several inspectors and sub-inspectors. They temporarily halted traffic on the airport road and other routes to facilitate the safe and swift passage of the ambulance.
Praising the family’s remarkable decision, hospital authorities commented, ‘Despite their grief, they thought about saving the lives of others. This shows their humanity and compassion.’ Gokuldas Kotule’s final act of kindness has ultimately saved the lives of seven individuals, leaving a lasting impact on many in the community.
