Major Outage Hits X, Leaving Users Frustrated
On Friday afternoon, thousands of users found themselves unable to access X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. Many were greeted with an error message stating, ‘Something went wrong. Try reloading.’
According to data from Downdetector, the disruptions began shortly after 2 p.m. ET, with a peak of over 53,000 reports of issues shortly thereafter. Users expressed their frustration, as attempts to refresh the page did not rectify the problem.
Details of the Outage
Individuals attempting to access the platform reported that the site was largely unresponsive, and many had difficulties using the X app. Approximately 54 percent of users who reported issues were focused on app accessibility, while others noted difficulty accessing the website itself.
After about half an hour, the issues appeared to be resolved, allowing users to regain access to the site.
History of Outages
This outage is not the first time X has experienced technical difficulties. The platform had a significant outage on March 10, which CEO Elon Musk attributed to a ‘massive cyberattack.’ Prior incidents include a major outage in August 2024, where 66 percent of users reported issues with the app and website.
While technical problems like these can frustrate users, they also raise questions about the platform’s stability and future reliability under its new ownership.
Response from Users
A variety of sentiments were expressed across other social media platforms as users took to Facebook and Instagram to discuss their experiences. Some remarked on the inconvenience, while others used humor to cope with the disruption.
As X continues to operate under its new branding, users and observers alike will keep a close watch on its performance, as past outages can often serve as a warning sign for potential future issues.
