New Beginnings for Ivisic
NASHVILLE — In a pivotal moment for both player and program, 7-foot-2 prospect Zvonimir Ivisic has opted to transfer from the Kentucky Wildcats to the Arkansas Razorbacks. This decision comes shortly after Mark Pope was appointed as head coach of Kentucky.
Pope met with Ivisic on two occasions after his hiring, attempting to persuade him to remain in Lexington. Unfortunately, the allure of reuniting with former coach John Calipari played a significant role in Ivisic’s choice to move to Arkansas.
“I had good conversations with Mark Pope,” Ivisic shared in an exclusive interview, referencing discussions that focused not only on basketball but also on their personal rapport.
The Transition Process
Despite the warm exchanges with Pope, the final decision to leave was made in consultation with his family and advisors. “It wasn’t just about me,” Ivisic stated. “We decided it was best for me to go to Arkansas than stay in Kentucky. That was it.”
Pope expressed understanding and respect for Ivisic’s choice, emphasizing the player’s potential and character. He remarked, “I think he’s a terrific talent. What a great talent.”
Impact on Both Programs
Ivisic’s decision led him to perform well for Arkansas in their recent matchup against Kentucky. He scored 14 points and grabbed four rebounds, contributing to Arkansas’s victory over Kentucky, 89-79.
As Ivisic continues his journey at Arkansas, he remains appreciative of his time at Kentucky, saying, “I still love Kentucky. I still love it over there.”
