FULLERTON, Calif. — A small plane crashed on January 2, 2025, resulting in two fatalities and injuries to 18 individuals. The crash occurred just moments after the aircraft took off from the Fullerton Municipal Airport, situated about six miles from Disneyland.
According to Kristy Wells, a spokesperson for the Fullerton Police Department, the identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed, nor is it clear whether they were aboard the plane or on the ground at the time of the incident.
Video footage captured by a nearby security camera showed the aircraft, a single-engine Van’s RV-10, tilting precariously as it descended, leading to a dramatic explosion and a plume of black smoke rising into the air.
Emergency responders quickly arrived on the scene, battling the fire and evacuating the surrounding structures. A total of ten people were transported to local hospitals, while eight received treatment at the scene.
The Fullerton City Council expressed deep condolences in a social media post, calling the event a ‘solemn tragedy.’ Mayor Fred Jung said, ‘The City of Fullerton is committed to providing support for all those affected and working with the agencies involved to uncover the details of this incident.’
The NTSB has commenced an investigation into the crash, as safety officials urge for greater awareness regarding small aircraft operations in populated areas.
