Edward Pettifer, the stepson of the former royal nanny, has been identified as a victim of a tragic attack in New Orleans that occurred on New Year’s Day.

The 31-year-old national was among 14 individuals killed when a pickup truck was driven into a crowd celebrating the New Year in the popular Bourbon Street area.

Pettifer was known for his connections to the British royal family, as his stepmother, Alexandra ‘Tiggy’ Pettifer, was a nanny to Prince William and Prince Harry during their childhoods.

In response to the tragedy, the Prince of Wales expressed his shock and condolences, stating that “Catherine and I have been shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Ed Pettifer. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the Pettifer family and all those innocent people who have been tragically impacted by this horrific attack.”

The assailant, a 42-year-old U.S. Army veteran named Shamsud-Din Jabbar, drove into pedestrians before being shot dead by the police. The New Orleans coroner reported that the cause of Pettifer’s death was attributed to ‘blunt force injuries’.

Pettifer’s family released a tribute, referring to him as a “wonderful son, brother, grandson, nephew, and friend to so many.” They expressed their devastation at his loss and requested privacy as they grieve.

Foreign Secretary David Lammy conveyed condolences, emphasizing support for the affected families and the need for unity against terror threats.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the attack, which the FBI is treating as an act of terrorism, after discovering items linked to extremist groups in the suspect’s truck.
