On New Year’s Day, at least ten people were injured in a shooting outside Amazura nightclub in Queens, New York City. The incident occurred just before 11:20 PM as a group of men opened fire on those waiting to enter the venue, which was hosting a private event on an upper level.
According to reports from the New York City Police Department (NYPD), the assailants fired approximately 30 shots. Among those injured were six females and four males; notably, a 16-year-old boy was also among the victims. Fortunately, all individuals were reported to have non-life-threatening injuries and are expected to recover.
The scene drew a large police response, with multiple ambulances called to the nightclub located on 144th Place in Jamaica, Queens. Eyewitnesses captured footage showing police and medical personnel responding promptly to the scene.
NYPD Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera addressed the media, stating that while the motive for the shooting remains unclear, they have ruled out terrorism, emphasizing that the investigation is ongoing. So far, authorities are pursuing a lead on a light-colored sedan believed to be involved in the escape of the suspects, who reportedly fled westbound.
The Amazura nightclub is a prominent venue in the area, known for hosting large events and accommodating up to 4,000 guests. At the time of the shooting, it was reported that about 90 people were inside for the private gathering, with another 15 waiting outside.
