Severe Weather Alerts: Tornado Watch and Thunderstorm Warnings Across Indiana and Ohio

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Most of Indiana is currently under a tornado watch until 10 a.m. today. Meanwhile, severe thunderstorms are affecting scattered parts of central and southern Indiana, prompting numerous weather warnings across the region.

As the storms roll through, over 50,000 residents are reported to be without power due to strong winds that can reach gusts of up to 60 mph. The National Weather Service is closely monitoring the situation, noting that the severe weather is primarily moving east towards the Ohio border.

Tornado Watch Details: The tornado watch covers a wide range of counties, including Bartholomew, Boone, Brown, Carroll, Clinton, Decatur, Delaware, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Henry, Howard, Jackson, Jennings, Johnson, Lawrence, Madison, Marion, Monroe, Morgan, Randolph, Rush, Shelby, and Tipton.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect until 6:15 a.m. specifically for areas including southeastern Henry, northeastern Shelby, and northern Rush counties. Additionally, a severe thunderstorm watch remains active for northern Indiana until 9 a.m. today.

Concerns are rising regarding the potential for damaging winds that could harm roofs, siding, and trees across these regions.

In response to these conditions, the National Weather Service advises residents to seek shelter in the interior rooms of the lowest floor of their homes until the threat passes.

Power Outages

As a result of the severe weather, it is reported that over 53,000 Hoosiers are currently without electricity. According to Duke Energy, about 20,000 of its customers are impacted by more than 431 reported outages, particularly in the southern and southwestern parts of Indiana. AES Indiana has reported 960 customers without power in Indianapolis, while Indiana Michigan Power has the least outages affecting only 91 customers.
