Myles Garrett Stays in Cleveland with Record-Breaking Contract
Myles Garrett is set to continue his career in Cleveland after the Browns awarded him a historic four-year contract extension, making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. Sources connected to the deal reported that the contract includes $122.8 million guaranteed, representing an average annual salary of $40 million and a total value of $204.8 million.
Garrett, who was named the 2023 AP Defensive Player of the Year, had initially requested a trade last month, but the Browns were steadfast in keeping the 29-year-old star in Cleveland. His new contract elevates the earning potential for other non-quarterbacks, including All-Pro receiver Ja’Marr Chase and Cowboys edge rusher Micah Parsons.
Drafted first overall in 2017, Garrett has logged an impressive 102.5 sacks over eight seasons with the Browns, although he has participated in only three playoff games thus far.
Josh Allen Secures a Major Extension with the Bills
NFL MVP Josh Allen also made headlines with a contract extension valued at $330 million, featuring a record-setting $250 million guaranteed. This deal cements Allen’s position among the highest-paid players in the league and extends his tenure with the Buffalo Bills until 2030.
Prior to this contract, Cleveland quarterback DeShaun Watson held the record for guaranteed money at $230 million. Allen’s new contract surpasses his previous six-year, $258 million deal signed in August 2021.
Having established a reputation as an elite quarterback, Allen is noted for rewriting several franchise single-season passing and scoring records. He overcame doubts regarding his capabilities when drafted seventh overall in 2018.
D.K. Metcalf Joins the Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers have bolstered their offensive lineup by acquiring two-time Pro Bowler D.K. Metcalf from the Seattle Seahawks for at least a second-round pick. This trade follows Metcalf’s request to leave Seattle amid a period of transition for the franchise.
The 27-year-old Metcalf is set to receive a new five-year contract valued at $150 million, marking his arrival as the pivotal big-play receiver the Steelers have needed since Antonio Brown’s departure.
Despite a decrease in touchdown receptions last season, Metcalf has consistently exceeded 900 receiving yards in each of his six years in the league.
Wide receiver Davante Adams has agreed to a two-year deal with the Los Angeles Rams worth up to $46 million. This move brings Adams back to California and is part of the Rams’ strategy to revamp their roster following the release of Super Bowl 56 MVP Cooper Kupp.
After a successful stint in Green Bay and a brief period with the New York Jets, Adams remains a top receiver, having recorded six seasons with over 1,000 receiving yards. His signing addresses the Rams’ need for a dynamic threat in their receiving corps.
