NFL Hall of Fame wide receiver Randy Moss announced on Friday that he is on the path to recovery following surgery to treat cancer. He shared this news via an Instagram Live session where he expressed gratitude to his supporters.
Moss revealed that doctors discovered a cancerous mass in his bile duct, which is located between the pancreas and liver. He underwent surgery for a Whipple procedure, which involves removing parts of the pancreas, small intestine, gallbladder, and bile duct. Moss explained, ‘I didn’t think I would ever be in this position, as healthy as I thought I was.’
The former football star was hospitalized for six days before being released, and he is now preparing for further treatment that will include radiation and chemotherapy. ‘All the prayers and well wishes really helped my family and me through this time,’ he said, appearing with a cane and wearing a hoodie that read ‘Team Moss.’
Moss stepped away from his role as an analyst on ESPN’s ‘Sunday NFL Countdown’ on December 6. He stated, ‘As soon as I get healthy to get back out with guys, I will be on set. Hopefully, I can be with you guys soon.’
The 47-year-old Moss was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018 after an impressive career that spanned 14 seasons with teams including the Minnesota Vikings, Oakland Raiders, New England Patriots, Tennessee Titans, and San Francisco 49ers. He currently ranks second in NFL history with 156 touchdown receptions and holds the record for the most touchdowns in a single season when he caught 23 passes in 2007.

Moss has received overwhelming support from fans and former teammates during this difficult time. He expressed appreciation for the medical staff who assisted in his recovery and announced he would be selling ‘Team Moss’ merchandise, with proceeds going towards cancer research.
The NFL community has rallied around Moss, with many expressing their support through social media platforms and during broadcasts.
