Myles Garrett Signs Record-Breaking Extension with Cleveland Browns

A Record-Breaking Contract for Myles Garrett

The Cleveland Browns have officially confirmed a groundbreaking four-year contract extension for defensive end Myles Garrett. Under the terms of this agreement, Garrett will earn an average of $40 million per year, becoming the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history, with a total of $123 million guaranteed.

This deal comes after a brief standoff during which Garrett expressed a desire for a trade, stemming from frustrations with the team’s performance following their disappointing 3-14 record in the 2024 season. Despite these challenges, Garrett has remarkably continued to excel, leading the league with 14 sacks and earning his sixth Pro Bowl selection.

Garrett’s Unmatched Achievements

Since being drafted first overall in the 2017 NFL Draft, Garrett has established himself as a cornerstone of the Browns’ defense. He achieved another milestone this season by becoming the first player in NFL history to achieve 14 or more sacks in four consecutive seasons. His total of 102.5 career sacks places him second overall in the NFL since 2017, trailing only T.J. Watt.

The Shift from Trade Request to Extension

Initially, Garrett had requested a trade, motivated by a strong desire to compete for a championship, rather than participate in a rebuild. Despite this, discussions between Garrett and the Browns’ management led to a change of heart that paved the way for this historic agreement.

Looking Ahead

With this extension, Myles Garrett is set to continue his legacy with the Browns, aiming to steer the team to greater success. Browns general manager Andrew Berry has repeatedly emphasized the importance of Garrett to the team and their goal to return to a winning culture.

As both parties move forward, the Browns and their fans can look forward to seeing Garrett’s continued contributions on the field for the next several seasons.
