Former NFL quarterback Michael Vick has officially taken on a new role as the head coach of Norfolk State University, transitioning from a celebrated sports career to coaching at the collegiate level. Vick’s appointment comes after the university recently parted ways with former coach Dawson Odums, who held the position for four years with a record of 15-30.

The announcement of Vick’s hiring has stirred interest and excitement in the sports community. Vick, known for his exceptional athletic skills and experience in the NFL, brings a wealth of knowledge to the role. He was previously involved in discussions regarding a head coaching position at Sacramento State, but ultimately decided on Norfolk State, likely influenced by its proximity to his hometown of Newport News, Virginia.

“He has expressed interest in the position and yes I did meet with him about his interest in Sac State football and our athletic rise,” said Luke Wood, president of Sacramento State, highlighting the strong appeal of their program.

Despite his previous ties with Sacramento State, it appears the opportunity at Norfolk State resonated more with Vick. Supporters are hopeful that his experience as a player will translate into effective leadership for young athletes.

As he takes on this new challenge, Vick may need to step away from his role as an NFL analyst at Fox Sports, as maintaining both jobs during the college football season could prove difficult.

With his dynamic background, many fans are eager to see how Vick will approach coaching at the collegiate level, particularly given the increasing trend of former NFL players taking on coaching roles. In light of this development, the football community is filled with anticipation for what this next chapter may hold for Michael Vick and the Norfolk State football program.
