Published: January 7, 2025, 10:48 PM PST

LOS ANGELES – A third fire requiring evacuations for Los Angeles County residents broke out on January 7, marking a significant threat in the Sylmar area. The Los Angeles Fire Department reported the fire a little before 10:15 PM, and it has since spread to approximately 50 acres with officials warning of its rapid growth.

Evacuation orders have been issued for communities north of the 210 Freeway from Roxford Street to the 5 and 15 freeway split. However, no official statements have been made regarding when these evacuation orders might be lifted.

Residents are urged to stay informed and heed evacuation warnings as two previous fires—the Palisades and Eaton fires—have already displaced many in neighboring areas.

On the Scene

Reports indicate that the fire, named the Hurst Fire, began near Yarnell Street by the Olive View Medical Center. According to the Angeles National Forest on X (formerly Twitter), the fire initially covered about 100 acres and has jumped the freeway, threatening additional communities.

Community Updates

Local citizens are advised to remain vigilant as wind gusts are predicted to reach 100 mph, potentially exacerbating the situation. The Los Angeles Fire Department has activated a full brush response, and ongoing efforts to contain the fire are underway.

We urge everyone to comply with evacuation orders and put safety first during this critical time, said a fire department spokesperson.

This situation remains fluid, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
