Jurickson Profar Suspended for 80 Games: MLB’s Latest PED Violation

Atlanta Braves Outfielder Jurickson Profar Suspended for 80 Games

The Atlanta Braves have announced that outfielder Jurickson Profar will be suspended for 80 games for violating Major League Baseball’s (MLB) performance-enhancing drug (PED) policy. This decision comes after Profar tested positive for chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), a substance often used as a masking agent for performance-enhancing drugs.

MLB’s investigation revealed Profar’s use of hCG, which is typically used to stimulate natural testosterone production after a cycle of PED use. MLB has a strict Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program that aims to uphold the integrity of the sport.

‘We were surprised and extremely disappointed to learn that Jurickson Profar tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance in violation of Major League Baseball’s Joint Prevention and Treatment Program. We fully support the Program and are hopeful that Jurickson will learn from this experience.’

Profar, who recently signed a three-year, $42 million contract with the Braves, expressed his regret during a statement issued through the MLB Players Association. He stated, ‘Today is the most difficult day of my baseball career. I am devastated to announce that I have been suspended for 80 games by Major League Baseball… I want to apologize to the entire Braves organization, my teammates, and the fans.’

Profar had a noteworthy performance last season, boasting career highs with 24 home runs and earning his first All-Star appearance while playing for the San Diego Padres. His presence was expected to bolster the Braves lineup. Now, however, the Braves must adapt without their starting left fielder for the upcoming games.

The suspension will prevent Profar from participating in the 2025 postseason, a significant setback as the Braves are looking to contend for the National League East title.

What Happens Next?

The Braves will need to fill the gap left by Profar. Earlier, they acquired Stuart Fairchild from the Cincinnati Reds, who could step in as they continue to seek victories. The Braves are currently working to turn their season around as they face tough competition ahead.

As the baseball community watches how this situation unfolds, Profar aims to return stronger after his suspension.
