Jax Taylor’s Sobriety Journey: Insights from Vanderpump Rules Co-Stars

Jax Taylor’s Vanderpump Rules co-stars have offered their candid thoughts on his battle with cocaine addiction and his ongoing journey towards sobriety. Taylor, who first appeared on Bravo’s popular reality show in 2013, has seen his life unfold in the public eye, including his marriage to Brittany Cartwright, which has been thoroughly documented on the series.

After departing from the show in 2020, Taylor quickly returned to television with a new series called The Valley alongside Cartwright. Following the first season, he took a significant step for his health by entering a treatment center, revealing that he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Taylor announced he had been sober for 83 days after struggling with a cocaine addiction.

During a March 2025 episode of Bravo’s “Hot Mic” podcast, Taylor opened up about his challenges with substance use. He stated, ‘I have substance issues — primarily with cocaine. It’s hard to say out loud. I’ve been dealing with this on and off since I was 23 and now I’m 45.’

He also discussed the impact of alcohol on his addiction, noting, ‘I can’t do cocaine without drinking. So I just gave up both. I’m proud to say I’m 83 days sober right now, which is the longest I’ve ever gone in my life without either.’

In response to his revelations, several of Taylor’s co-stars publicly expressed their support. Cartwright described the effects of Taylor’s addiction, saying, ‘His addiction unfortunately has done irreparable damage to my son and I.’ She reflected on her struggle to help him, remarking, ‘I wish more than anyone I could say how proud I am of him today but I’d be lying. His actions will speak for themselves.’

Tom Sandoval, another co-star, praised Taylor’s efforts, stating, ‘I’m so proud of him, I think that’s so awesome. He really seems like he’s really been working on himself. For real. For real this time.’

Lala Kent also offered her perspective, emphasizing the complexity of addiction. ‘Sobriety for someone, it’s not one size fits all. Everyone has a different level of addiction but addiction is addiction,’ she remarked.

Lisa Vanderpump recalled moments during the series, expressing concern for Taylor’s behavior and hoping for his continued sobriety. ‘Jax is very stubborn and he is going to tell you what he wants you to know,’ she shared.

Scheana Shay commented on the general awareness surrounding Taylor’s struggles, saying, ‘That would be the worst-kept secret if we didn’t know. Everyone knew Jax did cocaine. That was not a secret.’ Shay described specific incidents that highlighted Taylor’s challenges, underscoring the reality of addiction within their shared experiences on the show.

As Taylor embarks on his journey toward recovery, he continues to receive support from those closest to him. The discussion around substance abuse remains vital, with family and friends playing a crucial role in the healing process.
