GMC Recalls 70,000 Sierra 1500 Trucks

GMC has announced the recall of more than 70,000 trucks due to a potential safety issue with the grille. The recall affects the 2022 model year of the Sierra 1500, with concerns that an upper trim piece that holds the chrome front grille deflector in place may break during operation.

According to a notification filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), approximately three percent of the 70,768 trucks recalled might have this defect. GMC warns that if the grille detaches, it could pose a risk to both the vehicle occupants and other road users.

GM is currently working on a solution but has yet to release a fix at the time of the recall announcement. A stop-sale order has also been issued to dealers, preventing them from selling any affected trucks, whether new or used. This decision follows reports of 1,225 incidents potentially related to the defect, including four reported accidents.

What Affected Owners Need to Know

Only the Sierra 1500 trucks from the 2022 model year with a chrome grille are involved in the recall, while vehicles manufactured after this model year are not affected.

GM encourages owners who have concerns about their vehicles to either contact their local dealers or check the NHTSA website to confirm if their trucks are included in the recall.

This recall emphasizes the company’s ongoing commitment to vehicle safety and compliance, ensuring continuation of the brand’s reputation in the market.
