Overview of the Incident

On December 25, 2024, a catastrophic incident occurred when an Azerbaijan Airlines flight, operating as Flight J2-8243, crashed just outside the city of Aktau, Kazakhstan. The Embraer 190 passenger jet was en route from Baku, Azerbaijan, to Grozny, Russia when it tragically went down.

Casualties and Response Efforts

The crash claimed the lives of at least 38 individuals, including both pilots and numerous passengers. Among the 67 people aboard, 29 survivors were discovered and treated for various injuries, with some reported in critical condition. Emergency crews swiftly responded to the scene, where shocking video footage depicted the aftermath of the crash.

Government Response

Kazakhstan’s government has pledged to provide all necessary assistance to victims and their families. Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev confirmed that rescue efforts continued following the incident and assured that families of Kazakh citizens who perished would receive financial support. Assistance is also planned for the relatives of deceased foreign nationals involved in the crash.
