Daniel Jones Signs with the Minnesota Vikings

Daniel Jones has officially signed with the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad, following his recent release from the New York Giants. The announcement was made by NFL Network insiders on Wednesday.

Jones, who experienced significant highs with the Giants, especially during last season, now joins a playoff-contending team. The Vikings currently have Sam Darnold as their starting quarterback, while Jones will support him and compete with Nick Mullens for positional depth.

The transition follows a tumultuous period for Jones in New York, where he was benched before opting for a release. Giants co-owner John Mara stated, ‘Daniel came to see me this morning and asked if we would release him. We mutually agreed that would be best for him and for the team.’ Jones expressed gratitude for his time with the Giants, acknowledging a mix of great moments but also disappointment over the lack of wins.

Jones had a remarkable run with the Giants, including securing career highs in passing yards, completion percentage, and rushing during the 2022 season, but injuries plagued his performance in the following seasons. His record with the Giants concluded at 22-44-1, indicating struggles despite flashes of potential.

“There have been some great times, but of course, we all wish there had been more of those. I take full responsibility for my part in not bringing more wins,” Jones said in a statement. The Vikings offer him a fresh start, with head coach Kevin O’Connell previously expressing admiration for Jones’s capabilities.

What Lies Ahead for Daniel Jones?

Jones is expected to stay on the Vikings’ practice squad initially, with the potential to elevate to the active roster depending on team needs and health of the quarterbacks ahead of him. The Vikings are currently positioned for a strong playoff run, and Jones’s addition provides further depth to their quarterback situation.

Fans will closely watch how Jones adapts to his new environment and role as he aims to revive his career in Minnesota.
