Milwaukee Bucks Star Faces Injury Setback
Los Angeles – Milwaukee Bucks star Damian Lillard is now facing an indefinite period on the sidelines following a diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis in his right calf. The announcement came from the team on Tuesday.
According to the Bucks, Lillard, aged 34, has been placed on blood-thinning medication to stabilize the condition. This diagnosis pertains to a serious ailment that previously ended the season for the San Antonio Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama.
In a statement, Bucks general manager Jon Horst emphasized that ‘Damian’s health is our No. 1 priority.’ He elaborated, ‘We will support him as he moves through this weekly process of strict criteria to ensure that it is safe for him to return to play.’ Horst noted, ‘Doctors have indicated that his situation is very unlikely to occur again,’ expressing gratitude that the issue was quickly identified and treated.
The Bucks are currently placed fifth in the Eastern Conference with a record of 40-31, aiming for a playoff berth. Nevertheless, Lillard’s extended absence poses significant questions about the team’s capacity to compete effectively in the playoffs.
This season, Lillard has averaged just under 25 points per game, alongside 4.7 rebounds and 7.1 assists, showcasing a strong performance alongside teammate Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Deep vein thrombosis has been a concern in the NBA, with several players, including two-time NBA champion Chris Bosh, having to retire due to this condition. Although some players, like the Detroit Pistons’ Ausar Thompson, have successfully returned to play after similar diagnoses.
