New York, NY (April 14, 2025) – The Dallas Wings made headlines on Monday night when they selected University of Connecticut guard Paige Bueckers with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, held at The Shed in New York City. This remarkable achievement follows Bueckers leading the Huskies to their twelfth NCAA Championship just over a week prior.

Dallas Wings Executive Vice President and General Manager Curt Miller expressed his excitement, stating, ‘We are extremely excited as a franchise to select Paige Bueckers. The addition of Paige is a significant momentum-building moment for the Wings franchise. She is one of the most efficient and decorated players we have seen in collegiate history.’ He also highlighted Bueckers’ commitment to community service, aligning with the organization’s values.

Bueckers, a 6-foot guard from Hopkins, Minnesota, concluded her five-year tenure at UConn with a standout career, holding the highest career scoring average (19.8 points). Her achievements included becoming the fastest player in UConn history to reach 2,000 career points and setting records for most points in NCAA Tournament games.

With a shooting percentage of over 50% from the field and 40% from three-point range, Bueckers demonstrated notable efficiency throughout her collegiate career, finishing with an impressive 50/40/85 statistical line.

A three-time First Team All-American and multiple conference award winner, Bueckers was integral in UConn’s success, helping the team reach the Final Four in every tournament she participated in and securing one NCAA championship title.

Head Coach Chris Koclanes remarked on Bueckers, saying, ‘We are thrilled to welcome her to the Dallas Wings. Paige has the demeanor to navigate the pressures of professional play and consistently deliver. We aim to create an environment where all players can lead, fostering success for years to come.’

After experiencing injuries that sidelined her for significant periods, Bueckers made a triumphant return, leading UConn to another successful season with an impressive performance in the NCAA Tournament, where she averaged 24.8 points.

Bueckers’ accolades extend beyond the court; she has a strong commitment to community service, receiving recognition for her efforts. She was named to the inaugural Allstate NACDA Good Works Team for her charity work.

With Bueckers joining the team, the Wings have a promising future ahead. Having won the WNBA Draft Lottery, they secured the opportunity to select her first overall. As the sixth UConn player to achieve this milestone, her selection not only signifies her talents but also represents a new chapter for the Dallas Wings.
