Burt’s Journey to Fame
Burt captured the hearts of audiences worldwide alongside actor Paul Hogan, who portrayed the adventurous crocodile hunter, Mick “Crocodile” Dundee. The film, which became Australia’s highest-grossing movie, revolved around the humorous and charming escapades of Dundee as he navigated life and love in the urban landscape of New York City.
In addition to Hogan, Burt shared the screen with Linda Kozlowski, further solidifying his place in film history. His appearance in the movie transformed him into a global symbol of Australia’s remarkable wildlife.
A Life Well-Lived
As Crocosaurus Cove remembers Burt, they highlighted his remarkable story: “Burt’s life story is one of strength, resilience, and a personality as bold as the Top End itself. Captured in the 1980s in the Reynolds River, Burt became one of the most recognized crocodiles in the world, helping to shape Australia’s image as a land of rugged natural beauty and awe-inspiring wildlife.”
Having lived at Crocosaurus Cove since 2008, Burt was admired for his independent nature. Caretakers reflected fondly on his fiery temperament, saying, “His fiery temperament earned him the respect of his caretakers and visitors alike, as he embodied the raw and untamed spirit of the saltwater crocodile.”
Remembering Burt
The Crocosaurus Cove team plans to honor Burt by installing a commemorative sign that celebrates his extraordinary life and legacy. They noted, “While his personality could be challenging, it was also what made him so memorable and beloved by those who worked with him and the thousands who visited him over the years.”
Indeed, Burt was not just a crocodile but a force of nature, reminding everyone of the magnificence of wildlife. His presence will be missed by the millions who admired him throughout his remarkable journey.
