Chipotle Confirms No Plans for Bankruptcy
Chipotle Mexican Grill is putting an end to recent rumors regarding a potential bankruptcy filing and the closure of its restaurants. On March 26, 2025, a Chipotle spokesperson addressed the speculation, confirming that the claims were based on inaccurate information.
“The claims that Chipotle is filing for bankruptcy and closing restaurants are false,” said the spokesperson in an email communication. “The false information stemmed from an inaccurate online article that confused Chipotle with a venture it tested in 2023. The story has since been corrected.”

Company’s Growth Outlook
Based in Newport Beach, California, Chipotle operates more than 3,700 locations globally. The company has ambitious plans for growth, expecting to open between 315 and 345 new restaurants this year, with a significant number featuring the popular drive-thru service known as Chipotlane.
During its latest financial review, Chipotle reported a revenue increase of 14.6% for the 2024 fiscal year, reaching a total of $11.3 billion. The company opened 304 new locations, showcasing a strong performance despite the rumors.
CEO Scott Boatwright remarked, “Chipotle had another outstanding year, delivering strong transaction-driven comps each quarter and expanding our margins. Our goal remains to build our footprint internationally while staying committed to our customer base.”
