Apple has unveiled iOS 26, the latest software update for iPhones, providing users with a first glimpse of the upcoming features expected to launch later this year. Although the rollout of the final version is scheduled for September 2025 to coincide with the release of the new iPhone 17 series, the developer beta version is already accessible to early testers.

The update introduces a major redesign, enhanced AI integration, and improved app functionalities, marking one of the most significant updates in recent years. The developer beta was released on June 9, 2025, and a more stable public beta is anticipated later this summer. The complete public release is likely to occur in September alongside the new iPhone models.

To access the beta, users need to enroll in the Apple Developer Program, which is free, and then navigate to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates on their devices. It’s advisable to back up data before installing the beta, given its early stage and possible bugs.

However, support for iOS 26 is limited to newer iPhone models, including the iPhone 16 series, iPhone 15 series, iPhone 14 series, and others up to the iPhone 11, as well as select iPhone SE models. The upcoming iPhone 17 series will come pre-installed with iOS 26.

Apple describes this update as one of its smartest, featuring a liquid glass design with dynamic effects, and new AI tools such as live translation during calls, smart suggestions for calendars based on photos, and the creation of custom emojis from text prompts, known as Genmoji.

Other notable changes include a redesigned Phone app with streamlined features, upgraded messaging options like poll creation and chat customization, and enhancements to the Apple Maps and CarPlay systems. Additionally, improvements in the use of AirPods and parental controls aim to enhance user experience and safety.

While the developer beta allows early access, it’s not recommended for everyday use due to potential instability. The final stable version of iOS 26 is expected to be released in September 2025, aligning with the new iPhone launch.
