SAN ANTONIO — Alijah Martin has turned a painful past into a triumphant victory as he led the Florida Gators to the NCAA Championship title for the third time in the program’s history. After suffering a heartbreaking defeat two years ago in the Final Four, Martin has now fulfilled his collegiate dreams.

Martin’s journey had its share of ups and downs, including a disappointing freshman year at Florida Atlantic University (FAU), where he contributed minimally on the court. However, perseverance became his mantra. ‘I never cried,’ he remarked, recalling his struggles. Instead of abandoning his basketball dreams, he focused on improving his game, demonstrating remarkable resilience.

This season, Martin transferred to the University of Florida under the guidance of coach Todd Golden, joining a lineup eager to compete for a championship. ‘Because we didn’t win, I don’t talk about that experience from FAU,’ Martin said, determined to make new memories in Gainesville.

The championship game on April 7, 2025, saw Martin score crucial free throws, leading the Gators to a narrow 65-63 victory over Houston. ‘I did it today for the boys in Boca,’ he proclaimed, paying homage to his roots and his journey from Boca Raton to the pinnacle of college basketball.

As confetti showered down in the Alamodome, Martin’s joy was palpable. ‘This one was for my boys in Boca,’ he reiterated, celebrating a victory that symbolized redemption and triumph over adversity.

Looking ahead, Alijah Martin’s performance and leadership have set a remarkable foundation for the Florida Gators, positioning them as a formidable force in college basketball for years to come.
