African Teams Make Strides in World Cup Qualifiers

Several African giants made bold statements in their bids to reach the 2026 FIFA World Cup with commanding wins on the final day of Matchday 6 of the qualifiers on Tuesday night.

Algeria delighted their fans with a 5-1 victory over Mozambique, while Morocco, DR Congo, and Senegal also secured vital wins to strengthen their positions in their respective groups.

Meanwhile, Comoros managed to keep their qualification hopes alive with a narrow win against Chad in Group I.

Group B

DR Congo 2-0 Mauritania

DR Congo surged to the top of Group B with a professional 2-0 win over Mauritania in Kinshasa. Charles Pickel opened the scoring early in the 3rd minute, while substitute Fiston Mayele scored in the 83rd minute to ensure victory. DR Congo now sits atop the group with 13 points, while Mauritania remains at the bottom with just two points.

Senegal 2-0 Togo

Senegal maintained pressure at the top of the group, defeating Togo 2-0 in Thiès. Pape Matar Sarr and an own goal from Togo’s Boma effectively sealed the match for Senegal, who now has 12 points and a strong goal difference.


Group E

Morocco 2-0 Tanzania

Morocco continued their perfect start with a 2-0 win over Tanzania in Agadir. Nayef Aguerd scored the first goal before Brahim Diaz converted a penalty, consolidating Morocco’s lead at the top of Group E.


Group G

Algeria 5-1 Mozambique

Mohamed Amoura was the star of the show, netting a hat-trick as Algeria triumphed over Mozambique. Amoura’s goals and Hadjam’s contribution secured a commanding victory, placing Algeria in a strong position with 12 points in Group G.

Group I

Comoros 1-0 Chad

Comoros revitalized their qualification campaign with a close 1-0 victory over Chad, thanks to Rafiki Saïd’s goal. This result puts Comoros just three points behind leaders Ghana.
