Mike Brown’s Firing Raises Eyebrows in the NBA Community

Former unanimous Coach of the Year, Mike Brown, was recently relieved of his duties as the head coach of the Sacramento Kings. The decision, made public on Friday, has sparked a wave of criticism from fans and notable figures in the NBA community.
Andrew Yang Voice His Discontent
Former presidential candidate Andrew Yang expressed his disagreement with the Kings’ decision via social media, stating, ‘I don’t think Mike Brown was the problem in Sacramento.’
Fan Reactions Highlight Frustration
Following Yang’s tweet, fans quickly took to the platform to voice their thoughts:
‘When politicians start weighing in on our front office… yeah we are cooked.’
‘Kings are so cooked… they need to just blow it up at this point.’
‘Coaches always are underappreciated for a losing franchise. First to be fired when there could be a ton of other issues.’
‘He was the scapegoat.’
‘Well said! However, too much talent to have that record. They’re desperately trying to salvage the season.’
‘Andrew Yang is a better analyst than most of the guys on TV.’
The Kings currently find themselves on a five-game losing streak, ranking 12th in the Western Conference with a record of 13-18.
Coaches Respond to the Firing
Mike Brown’s dismissal resonated throughout the NBA, particularly among other coaches. Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr stated, ‘Very disappointed to hear the news. Mike is a great friend, great coach.’ Kerr further elaborated on the surprising nature of the move, noting, ‘It just seems so shocking when a guy is unanimous Coach of the Year a year and a half ago.’
‘When they win, it’s going to go to (Domantas) Sabonis and (De’Aaron) Fox. And when you lose, it’s going to go to Mike Brown. That’s the way it works,’ added Denver Nuggets coach Michael Malone.
‘I had the privilege of working with Mike… I’m just absolutely shocked that that decision was made,’ stated Indiana Pacers coach Rick Carlisle, emphasizing Brown’s integrity and reputation in the sport.
Mike Brown took over as head coach of the Sacramento Kings in May 2022 and achieved success, winning the Coach of the Year title in his first season.
