In a thrilling display of strength and resilience, No. 1 Penn State delivered a remarkable reverse sweep, defeating No. 1 Nebraska in the NCAA women’s volleyball semifinals. The Nittany Lions triumphed with set scores of 21-25, 18-25, 25-20, 25-19, and 15-13, marking the first reverse sweep in the semifinals since 2018.

Initially, Nebraska appeared destined to win, having taken the first two sets with an impressive performance from Andi Jackson, who recorded 18 kills, alongside strong defensive plays from Rebekah Allick. However, as the match progressed, Penn State found its rhythm. Jess Mruzik and Izzy Starck led the charge, with Mruzik contributing 17 kills and Starck providing crucial blocks.

The Nittany Lions began their comeback in the third set, where a strategic 5-0 run allowed them to establish control. Starck’s significant contribution included six blocks that proved pivotal in shifting the match’s momentum.

As the match reached its climax in the fifth set, Penn State faced intense pressure from Nebraska, who attempted a late-game surge. Ultimately, Starck’s decisive block secured the win for the Nittany Lions.

With this victory, Penn State advances to its 14th NCAA championship match, the first since 2017, where they will meet Louisville on Sunday, December 22.
