Fans of the acclaimed animated series Bluey have something exciting to look forward to, as BBC Studios and The Walt Disney Company have announced that the beloved blue heeler will make her cinematic debut. The first-ever Bluey animated feature film is set to hit theaters globally in 2027, before subsequently being available on Disney+.
According to the press release from Disney, the film will continue the adventures of Bluey, a lovable blue heeler puppy who shares joyous moments with her family, which includes her dad Bandit, her mom Chilli, and her little sister Bingo.
‘Since its debut on Disney Jr. and Disney+, Bluey has become a global phenomenon, uniting families everywhere with its heartfelt stories of play, imagination, and connection,’ said Disney Entertainment co-chairmen Alan Bergman and Dana Walden. ‘We are proud to partner with BBC Studios to bring this beloved series to the big screen for families to enjoy.’
Keeping the Momentum Going
The feature film arrives on the heels of Bluey‘s impressive success, being recognized as the number one streaming series in the U.S. for 2024, with over 50.5 billion minutes viewed across more than 140 countries. The latest episodes have encouraged much speculation among fans about the future of the series.
Creator Joe Brumm, who directs the film, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, ‘I always thought Bluey deserved a theatrical movie. I want this to be an experiential event for the whole family to enjoy together.’
A Brief Hiatus for the Series Creator
It is worth noting that Brumm has announced he will be taking a break from the series to focus on the film but reassured fans that this is not an end to Bluey. ‘If I can’t wrap my head around doing more seasons myself, “The Sign” will mark my TV finale for Bluey and I wrote it as such. But I want this film to be a memorable event for audiences worldwide.’
With Bluey set to expand into the world of cinema, it seems that families can look forward to even more heartwarming adventures with their favorite blue heeler.
