Donald Trump Named Time Magazine’s 2024 Person of the Year
Time magazine has officially announced its selection of President-elect Donald Trump as the Person of the Year for 2024. This marks the second occasion that Trump has received this honor, having previously been named in 2016.
The announcement was made on Thursday and highlights the significant influence Trump has had on the political landscape throughout the year. Time’s editor-in-chief, Sam Jacobs, noted that ‘since he began running for President in 2015, perhaps no single individual has played a larger role in changing the course of politics and history than Trump.’
Jacobs continued, saying, ‘On the cusp of his second presidency, all of us—from his most fanatical supporters to his most fervent critics—are living in the Age of Trump.’
In conjunction with this announcement, Trump celebrated by ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange. This year’s selection follows last year’s honoree, pop megastar Taylor Swift.
Despite this accolade, Trump also appears to be reshaping some of his campaign promises. In a recent interview, he expressed the difficulty of lowering grocery prices, stating, ‘It’s hard to bring things down once they’re up, very hard.’ This admission has raised concerns among his supporters regarding his forthcoming administration’s economic policies.
The cover of this year’s Time issue features a commanding image of Trump that reflects his controversial yet impactful role in contemporary politics.
