Breakfast Brief: Warming Trend and Soggy East
The weekend warming trend continues to start the week as another front approaches from the west. Published every weekday morning, this Breakfast Brief provides the latest weather updates at 5 a.m. ET.
A stretch of cold weather ended late this weekend across many areas in the South and East, making way for above-average temperatures to dominate the Southeast and Southern Central Plains as we begin the new week. The warmest temperatures on Monday afternoon are expected in South Texas, where highs in the mid-80s are likely. South Florida will enjoy weather reaching the low 80s.
Chicago is expected to remain ‘toasty’ for this time of year, with temperatures reaching the low 50s, which is about 5 degrees above the norm. Meanwhile, the Northeast, including Boston and NYC, will experience mid- to upper-40s, remaining cooler.
The warming trend is expected to continue on Tuesday, but colder air is moving east, which will take over the Midwest and Great Lakes. Central Plains regions, including DFW, may see below-average temperatures.
Temperatures across the western U.S. will vary widely. Slightly warmer than average temperatures are forecast for the California coast and valleys, while places like the Sierras and Rockies are expected to be 5 to 15 degrees below average. Snow is likely in parts of Wyoming, the Dakotas, and Colorado; however, this snowfall will taper off as the system moves east, and high pressure brings more stable conditions.
