The LA Clippers and Kaiser Permanente have announced a new partnership that aims to enhance health and wellness in the Greater Los Angeles community. This collaboration will see Kaiser Permanente serve as the official health care partner for the Clippers, extending its sports medicine program to the team’s training center.
Kaiser Permanente plans to open a specialized sports medicine clinic within the Intuit Dome campus by 2025. This clinic will not only cater to the needs of Clippers players but also serve Kaiser Permanente members and the local community. Furthermore, Kaiser Permanente will invest in a community activation fund designed to promote the well-being and future of the youth in the Greater Los Angeles area.
‘The LA Clippers share Kaiser Permanente’s vision for a thriving community that embraces total health and wellness, and that’s what makes this a perfect partnership,’ said Michelle Gaskill-Hames, president of Kaiser Permanente Southern California, Health Plan and Hospitals.
Scott Sonnenberg, chief commercial officer for the LA Clippers, echoed this sentiment, stating, ‘Kaiser Permanente was selected as our official health care partner due to their long-standing reputation in sports medicine. This long-term partnership demonstrates our deep commitment to improving the health of Los Angeles residents, especially for our youth.’
Key focus areas of this partnership include:
- Community Activation Fund: A multi-year initiative targeting the youth of Inglewood and surrounding communities, focusing on mental health, physical activity, and educational opportunities.
- Community Engagement: Collaborative community activities and programs that open the Intuit Dome campus to local youth.
- Medical Excellence: The Southern California Permanente Medical Group will serve as the team physicians for the Clippers, providing the same high-quality care to the community as they do for the athletes.
- New Sports Medicine Clinic: A cutting-edge clinic located within the Intuit Dome will open in late 2025, serving both members and the wider community.
Dr. Ramin Davidoff, executive medical director of the Southern California Permanente Medical Group, stated, ‘We are pleased to support the LA Clippers and provide expertise and high-quality care to professional athletes as well as Kaiser Permanente members.’ This collaboration highlights a commitment to comprehensive preventive care and injury treatment, ensuring athletes can perform at their best while also benefiting the community.
