Texas Longhorns Triumph Over Texas A&M: A Showcase by Quintrevion Wisner

Texas Longhorns in action against Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION — A jubilant Quintrevion Wisner, the standout running back for the Texas Longhorns, soaked in the cheers from the fans as he exited Kyle Field after a hard-fought 17-7 victory against Texas A&M. The crowd, dressed in burnt orange, serenaded him with chants of ‘S-E-C!’

On this pivotal Saturday evening, Wisner took the reins of Texas’ offensive strategy, touching the ball on 35 of 78 offensive plays and racking up a personal-best 186 rushing yards. This performance propelled the Longhorns to a hard-earned win, setting the stage for a rematch against Georgia in the upcoming SEC championship game.

Prior to this game, Wisner, a sophomore, had never handled the ball more than 20 times in a single collegiate match. Yet, he was unfazed when questioned about fatigue postgame. ‘Tired? Tired?’ he replied incredulously, emphasizing his stamina and determination during the game.

Throughout the contest against the Aggies, Wisner consistently pounded into the defensive line. His impressive ability to gain yards came from strategic runs of eight, five, and even 16 yards at a time. ‘As the game goes on, the more I get comfortable running the ball… the more I’m able to be explosive in my runs,’ Wisner noted.

Averaging 5.6 yards per carry, Wisner proved crucial in maintaining Texas’ offensive flow, especially following turnovers from quarterback Quinn Ewers. After a pick-six allowed the Aggies to score, Wisner carried the ball seven times on the subsequent drive, allowing Texas to regain control of the game.

Head Coach Steve Sarkisian praised Wisner’s performance: ‘About a month ago, we challenged our guys about the running game. And boy, have they responded. Tre Wisner has just been an absolute warrior for us.’

Wisner’s remarkable showing came after overcoming injuries early in the season when he was set to compete for a position on the depth chart. After CJ Baxter’s season-ending injury and others affecting the roster, Wisner seized his opportunity, recently accumulating 344 rushing yards across two weeks against formidable opponents.

His emergence as a leading offensive player presents new avenues for the Longhorns as they progress into postseason play. Sarkisian highlighted Wisner’s work ethic, stating, ‘All he does is work. It’s never about Tre; it’s about his teammates, and I think that’s why the guys love him so much.’
