George Clooney Backs Wes Moore for 2028 Presidential Race
Actor and activist George Clooney has shown his early support for Maryland Governor Wes Moore as a potential candidate for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination. In a recent interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper, Clooney described Moore as a ‘proper leader’ and highlighted him as one of the most promising figures in the Democratic Party, particularly following its defeat in the 2024 election.
‘He’s smart. He ran a hedge fund. He ran the Robin Hood Foundation. He’s a proper leader,’ Clooney stated, pointing out Moore’s impressive background and leadership experience.
In addition to Moore, Clooney mentioned Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer as strong potential candidates. However, he emphasized that Moore stands out, especially due to his effective leadership during Maryland’s response to the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse.
‘Wes Moore is levitating above the rest,’ Clooney added, praising Moore’s military service and ability to handle tragedy with grace. Moore has been a staunch supporter of President Biden and played an active role in his 2024 campaign.
With the Democratic field still wide open, Clooney’s endorsement of Moore puts him on the national radar as discussions surrounding the 2028 election begin. Clooney, an Oscar-winning actor, has previously encouraged Biden to step aside in the upcoming election, emphasizing the need for Democrats to unite behind a single figure.
‘We have to find somebody rather soon,’ he advised, reiterating the urgency for the party to coalesce around a strong candidate as they look ahead to the next election cycle.
