Tom Aspinall traveled to London this past weekend for the UFC’s latest Fight Night event. While there, the reigning interim heavyweight champion met with UFC executives to discuss his future in the division.
Aspinall, who has been sidelined since his quick victory over Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304 in July, is waiting for a potential champion vs. champion bout with Jon Jones. This matchup was a key topic in Aspinall’s recent discussions with UFC officials.
In an interview after the meeting, Aspinall shared, ‘We had a nice meal and talked everything through. UFC CBO Hunter Campbell has always been extremely personable and reasonable with me. I can’t say what he’s like with other people, but with me and my team, he’s been fantastic. Everything went amazing, and I understand my position now.’ He added, ‘Some big news is coming. Stay tuned.’
Movement towards the Jones vs. Aspinall fight has been slow, but UFC CEO Dana White expressed confidence that the matchup will occur, stating, ‘It’s done but not done. It’s just a matter of when now.’
After feeling frustrated earlier, Aspinall expressed renewed optimism following his recent meeting. ‘I feel like we’re in a good spot right now. I’m working hard in the gym, and although I’ve not fought in a while, I’m ready to take on whoever is next. I’m not just sitting around; I’m training every day.’
While waiting for a fight, Aspinall is determined to focus on his long-term goal of becoming the undisputed heavyweight champion. ‘I want to fight for the belt, and that’s what I’m working towards. Training is my priority, and I’m putting in the effort every day.’
With only a few potential fights remaining, fans are eagerly anticipating Aspinall’s next move in the heavyweight division.
