PHOENIX – Cubs Come Alive in Offense Against Diamondbacks

Cubs Showcase Offense in 10-6 Victory Over Diamondbacks

In what they dubbed Opening Day 2.0, the Chicago Cubs showcased their offensive might with a 10-6 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field. This game followed a challenging start to the season with the Cubs dropping their first two games in Tokyo.

Despite a rocky start by pitcher Justin Steele, who allowed three runs in five innings, the Cubs’ lineup picked up the slack. Ian Happ and Miguel Amaya stole the spotlight by driving in eight runs between them, propelling the team to victory on their road trip.

Steele struggled early, giving up a leadoff double to Ketel Marte and an RBI single to Josh Naylor, allowing the Diamondbacks to take an early lead. However, the Cubs quickly answered back, taking control of the game in the second inning as Happ hit an RBI double, followed by Kyle Tucker’s first RBI as a Cub.

The Diamondbacks’ Gallen also faced challenges on the mound, surrendering four runs in four innings. After a brief battle back to keep the game close, the Cubs extended their lead with a series of hits in the fifth inning, culminating in Amaya’s double that cleared the bases.

In the end, despite a few late-game threats from Arizona, Cubs closer Ryan Pressly managed to seal the win, allowing only a groundout score in the ninth inning. The Cubs finished the game with 12 hits, including multiple-hit performances from Happ and Amaya, underscoring their offensive potential this season.

Looking ahead, the Cubs aim to build on this momentum as they gear up to face Diamondbacks ace Merrill Kelly in the next matchup. With hopes of claiming a division crown, each win becomes increasingly crucial.
