U.S. Authorities Hunt ‘Big U’: Los Angeles Gang Leader Linked to Violent Crimes

Eugene Henley Jr.: A Fugitive in the Spotlight

Federal authorities are actively searching for Eugene Henley Jr., who is commonly known as ‘Big U’. He is a longstanding leader of the Rollin’ 60s Neighborhood Crips in Los Angeles and is linked to a string of serious offenses, including murder and human trafficking.

Criminal Enterprise Uncovered

The U.S. Attorney’s Office revealed that Henley is at the center of what has been described as a ‘mafia-like’ criminal organization. Prosecutors allege that this group was involved in numerous illegal activities ranging from drug trafficking to extortion. Henley, alongside 18 other gang members, has been charged in a federal complaint.

Ten members of the gang were arrested recently, but Henley, aged 58, remains at large, alongside two other suspects. Reports indicate that some of the charged individuals were already in custody prior to this week.

Allegations of Murder

Prosecutors claim Henley played a critical role in the death of an aspiring rapper known only as ‘R.W.’ The rapper was allegedly murdered in Las Vegas in 2021 after producing a defamatory song. His body was subsequently discovered in a remote area off Interstate 15.

Fraud and Exploitation

In addition to murder, Henley is suspected of exploiting charitable donations meant for community development. Specifically, he is accused of embezzling funds from ‘Developing Options,’ a charity he founded purportedly to help at-risk youth, turning it into a front for illicit activities.

The Community Reacts

Residents and officials in Los Angeles are voicing their concerns over the influence of gang leaders like Henley, particularly those who operate under the guise of community leaders. The U.S. Attorney, Joseph McNally, emphasized the importance of addressing these enterprises, stating, ‘Eliminating gangs and organized crime is the Department of Justice’s top priority.’

Conclusion

If apprehended and convicted, Henley could face severe penalties, including life in federal prison. The search continues as law enforcement agencies work diligently to bring him and his associates to justice.
