The 88th Annual Glasheen, Valles & Inderman Injury Lawyers Sun Bowl Parade is set to take place on November 28, 2024. The event will honor Wayne Thornton, former president of the Sun Bowl Association, who has been named the Grand Marshal for this year’s festivities.

About Wayne Thornton

Wayne Thornton, who served 43 years with the El Paso Parks and Recreation Department before retiring in 2020, expressed his gratitude upon receiving the honor. He stated, ‘This is a very, very special honor. I remember being a young student at UTEP and reading the paper about the Sun Bowl and what they did for this community.’ He reflected on his journey from a young admirer of the parade to being recognized as a leader in the community.

2024 Parade Theme

This year’s parade theme, ‘Celebrate, Honor & Remember All the Heroes Who Have Served,’ is a tribute to veterans and those who have contributed to the nation. Jim Lawrence, Sun Bowl Parade Chairman, noted that this theme beautifully reflects appreciation for military and community heroes.

Parade Details

The parade will begin at 10 a.m. at the intersection of Montana and Ochoa streets and will continue along Montana Avenue to its conclusion at Copia Street. It is expected to draw over 200,000 spectators, making it one of El Paso’s most cherished traditions.

What to Expect

Attendees can look forward to 22 floats and seven bands, including performances from local schools. Notable floats include tributes to Pat Tillman and Rosie the Riveter, acknowledging various historical figures and contributions.

Watching the Parade

For those who wish to attend the parade, arriving early is advisable, with families often beginning to gather by 8 a.m. Tickets for the review stand are available for $10 at local Vista Market stores, providing the best seats in the house.
