Idaho Potato Drop Brings New Year’s Celebration to Boise
BOISE, Idaho — As the countdown to the New Year begins, the Idaho Potato Drop is set to offer Idahoans a unique way to celebrate. This year promises an evening filled with live music, a variety of food and drinks, and an Urban Rail Jam competition featuring top snowboarders and skiers from across the country.
‘We are expecting a large crowd tonight,’ said Dylan Cline, Founder of the Idaho Potato Drop. ‘It’s our 12th annual event and it’s free for all ages, so we encourage everyone to join us.’
The event will showcase the talents of snowboarders and skiers competing for cash prizes throughout the evening, concluding with a final ride right as the clock strikes midnight.
‘This is the eighth year of our Urban Snow Park series,’ Cline noted. ‘We are excited to bring the Urban Rail Jam back this year.’
A fireworks display, synchronized with the countdown at the Capitol, will ensure a spectacular end to the night. Jon Galane, responsible for the fireworks show, described last year’s display as ‘a blast.’ He added, ‘This year features over 500 cues and about 750 individual fireworks.’
For those unable to attend the festivities in downtown Boise, various other celebrations are taking place across Idaho, including a beet drop in Rupert and a gem drop in Kuna.
As preparations are finalized, Cline expressed his optimism for the event, stating, ‘It’s going to be a beautiful clear night, and I expect this will be our best show yet.’
